Workflow: Bookends - Obsidian - Nisus Writer Pro - Bookends
You can annotate on the .pdf in Bookends. Then configure for it to be extracted (CMD+E) to the Obsidian folder as a markdown (.md) note (file). In the text of the Obsidian note thus created, there will be a deep link to navigate back to the exact text on the .pdf in Bookends where the original annotations were made. Then you can export the Obsidian note with Pandoc to MS Word document. Thereafter open the created MS word file, in Nisus Write Pro. Then use Nisus Pro Writer’s very powerful find-and-replace feature to:
Find: \[\[([A-Za-z0-9]+) ([0-9]+)\]\]
Replace: {\1:\2}
This formats the texts of the deep links into a format that Bookends can scan to create citations and bibliography.
You can save the find-and-replace syntax in the find-and-replace dialogue to reuse the find-and-replace. You can also create a macro to execute the find-and-replace, making the process even more convenient.
Then you can scan with Bookend through the Nisus Pro Write tool, and create the citations and bibliography.
MS Word and Mellel cannot perform the advanced Regex for find and replace, so their role in any workflow is inefficient. This workflow cannot be used with Zotero either. This is because Zotero requires the citation tags to be inserted in the document by Zotero itself, i.e., it would not work if the tags were copied and pasted.
